Thus far, my most challenging role was Come Morning directed by Derrick Sims, where I played the lead D whose life changed in the course of an evening. Not only was role emotionally challenging, the filming of the movie was physically demanding as we filmed mostly nights in the dark in the cold in the middle of Arkansas. It was an amazing experience and I loved working with the entire crew.
Amy Sayers was born in NYC to Bohemian parents of Russian descent. Her father, Martin Kallman was a painter, a pianist and a poet and greatly adored by Amy. She grew up in a suburb of Detroit, in a purple house, surrounded by Art, books, classical music, dance and trips into Nature. However, suburban life would, in time, become her nemesis
She attended Wayne State University in Detroit but longed for broader landscapes and the University of California at Santa Cruz offered her a dance scholarship. It wasn’t long before the dance world of New York beckoned and she lived there for ten years studying and performing. In 1986 New Mexico’s wide ranging vistas stretched her arms toward Amy in a call toward healing and in 1986 she moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico where she lives with her husband Gavin and their daughter Marika. She divides her time between family, painting, writing and teaching Classical Pilates.
A survivor of breast cancer, Amy has sought new pathways into the light. Supported and inspired by her Jungian analyst, Monika Wikman, Amy has taken her dream work and writing, along with the words of others, into the healing process of painting. Her work is a combination of techniques: Venetian plaster mixed with pure pigment then burnished and collaged with found objects, her own drawings and other mixed media.
